Washington County is located in the southwestern corner of Rhode Island and is the smallest county in the state. It is bordered by Connecticut to the west, Massachusetts to the north and east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south. It is primarily rural, with many small towns and villages, and is home to several state parks and preserves, such as Arcadia Management Area, Charlestown Breachway, and Burlingame State Park. The county seat is in the town of South Kingstown.
